At 18:15 while on the scene of the two vehicle MVA UC911 advised Command 15 of a second call in the borough. Chief 1502 released Engine 15-2 to respond to the area of the 20 block of Elm Street for a natural gas leak. Engine 15-2 arrived in the area and found a strong smell of natural gas. Chief 1503 requested a second engine to the scene. The engine crew established a water supply from a nearby hydrant, deployed a hand line, and was able to make access to the damaged gas meter to close the shutoff. Truck 15-1 arrived and assisted by evacuating residents in a nearby apartment building. Once the leak was controlled crews used 4 gas meters to clear the neighboring buildings.
